The Government of Tenerife has approved a project to expand the TF-5 motorway with the addition of a third lane northbound between Guamasa and Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna. The decision was announced by the president of the Island Corporation, Rosa Dávila, and the vice-president, Lope Afonso, during a press conference held after the Governing Council session last Wednesday.
This project, which has an estimated cost of 55 million euros, seeks to improve the capacity and safety of the motorway in a segment of 3.6 kilometres, from the junction at Guamasa (P.K. 15+000) to the San Lázaro junction (P.K. 11+400), where the motorway already has three lanes in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This expansion is intended to relieve congestion on one of the busiest and most accident-prone sections of the TF-5, thus improving both traffic flow and safety conditions. The proposal will now be sent to the Government of the Canary Islands, and an agreement is expected to be signed so that the Cabildo itself can carry out the works.
